asked the Minister for Education if he will publish in full the result of the census taken by his Department, referred to in paragraph 11 of his statement on post-primary education.

This census which was taken in February, 1962, related to pupils in attendance at national, vocational and secondary schools. The results will be published in due course in the Department's annual report.

asked the Minister for Education the estimated number of new comprehensive schools referred to in his statement on post-primary education, which are needed in the country.

asked the Minister for Education the estimated number of technological colleges with regional status which is contemplated.

asked the Minister for Education what is the likely school fee per annum in the proposed comprehensive schools.

asked the Minister for Education the estimated cost to the Exchequer, or to local authorities, if there were no school fee in the proposed comprehensive schools, and if there were no charge made for transport.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Education the total estimated cost of implementing the proposals concerning alterations in the educational system, recently referred to by him, if they were applied to the entire eligible age group now in the country.

asked the Minister for Education the estimated numbers that will attend the regional technological colleges that have been proposed by him; and what the fees will be at such colleges.

asked the Minister for Education where it is proposed to erect the new comprehensive schools and the new regional technological colleges, and the number that is proposed to be built; and when it is proposed to start building.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Education the total estimated time needed to implement the proposals for changes in the educational services recently outlined by him.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Education the total number of scholarships proposed for facilitation of pupils leaving the proposed new comprehensive schools and qualified to enter secondary schools.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister of Education the total number of new scholarships to be made available for children anxious and qualified to pass from secondary to university or higher technological college under the new proposals recently announced by him.

A Cheann Comhairle, I propose with your permission to take questions Nos. 78, 79, 80, 81, 82, 83, 84, 85, 86 and 87 together. The information sought in these questions could be supplied only when the detailed surveys which are now under way have been completed. These detailed surveys could not begin until I had formulated and announced my plans for post-primary education. No time will be lost in completing the surveys and when they have been completed decisions will be taken in relation to such matters of detail as the location of the schools and the fees which, having regard to the circumstances of each locality, may be charged.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state his proposal for the constitution of the committee of management of the proposed comprehensive schools.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Education the bodies or persons to be represented on the committee of management of the comprehensive schools referred to in his recent speech on proposed changes in the educational system.

A Cheann Comhairle, I propose, with your permission, to take questions Nos. 88 and 89 together. It is my intention that the committee of management of each comprehensive school will consist of representatives of the religious authority concerned, of the vocational education committee and of the Minister for Education.

asked the Minister for Education what training will be required for teachers in the proposed comprehensive schools.

For the practical subjects such as manual instruction — woodwork and metalwork — and domestic science, the teachers will be trained through courses conducted under my Department. The other teachers will be university trained.

91.

asked the Minister for Education what arrangements are contemplated in paragraph 23 of his statement in regard to post-primary education for pupils who enter on the secondary school leaving certificate course in comprehensive schools; and whether it is proposed that such pupils will have to pay fees.

I made it clear in my statement that special arrangements by way of scholarship or otherwise would be made to facilitate the continued education of such pupils.
