Vol. 203 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Portlaoise Public Convenience.

9.

asked the Minister for Finance the cause of the long delay concerning the site for the proposed public convenience on the Abbeyleix Road, Portlaoise; if he is aware that the County Council cannot proceed with this work until his Department have put legal matters in order; and if he will now have a decision conveyed to the Council.

In June, 1962, the Laois County Council applied for a site for a public convenience at the front of the former military barrack property in Portlaoise. The site, however, was not considered suitable having regard to possible future development of the property. As a result of discussion with representatives of the county council in October, 1962, an alternative site was suggested, and in March, 1963, the council indicated that this would be acceptable to them. Subject to the concurrence, which has been sought, of the Departments who occupy the barrack property a formal offer of the agreed site will be made to the county council at an early date.
