Vol. 203 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Pier Improvement.

10.

asked the Minister for Finance if, in view of the growing importance of the Port Pier, Inver, County Donegal and of its total inadequacy for handling modern transport, he will make available a grant for widening and improving it generally.

The pier at Port Inver, County Donegal was improved in the years 1957 to 1959 in the local fishing interests at a cost of £2,856 of which the State paid 75 per cent and the Donegal County Council 25 per cent.

The question of erecting a winch and widening the pier was considered in 1961. The winch was provided at a cost of £55, but the widening was not then recommended by the Fisheries Division as they considered that the extent of the fishing activities in the area would not justify a further expenditure of the order required. I am asking them to re-examine the proposal.
