Vol. 203 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bacon Survey Team Report.

24.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if, in view of the alarm caused by the recent disclosures that the bacon survey team report will recommend the closure of one third of existing bacon factories, he will make a statement on the matter.

I am not aware of any such alarm. The report of the Survey Team on the Bacon and Pigmeat Industry has only been circulated confidentially to the members of the Study Group concerned with the industry. The Study Group has yet to examine the report and express its views on recommendations therein. Meanwhile it has been decided to publish the Report so as to facilitate the widest possible discussion of its contents before conclusions are formed. The report is being printed and its publication is expected within the next few weeks.
