Vol. 203 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Importation of Bread.

41.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if it is proposed to permit the importation of bread for commercial purposes, and, if so, when; and the amount of duty which will be payable on it.

Under present arrangements the proposal is to remove the import prohibition on bread on the 1st July, 1963. Bread would then be liable to import duty of 67½ per cent ad valorem—full rate—or 45 per cent ad valorem—preferential rate. In addition wrapped loaves would attract package duty of approximately one penny per 1b. weight.
