Vol. 203 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Galway City Sewerage Facilities.

46.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that a number of town planning appeals and the development of sites for housing and other amenities are held up because of the inadequate sewerage facilities which exist in Galway city; what action he intends to take to remedy the matter; and if he will make a statement.

I assume that the Deputy is referring to applications made to the planning authority for planning permissions. I am aware that drainage problems have caused difficulties in regard to building development in some parts of Galway city. It is a matter for the corporation in the first instance to formulate proposals for the necessary main drainage improvements and their consulting engineer is preparing revised documents at present. The corporation and my Department are fully alive to the need for early action.
