Vol. 203 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pollution of Domestic Water Supplies.

52.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether any investigation has been made into the possible pollution of domestic water supplies through the use of detergents, and, if so, with what result.

There is no evidence to date that there have been, in this country, any harmful effects on domestic water supplies arising from the use of detergents. While no special investigation has been carried out into this matter, the question of pollution generally comes within the terms of reference of the inter-Departmental Committee on Water Resources who are considering the various problems associated with the protection and use of water resources.
