Vol. 203 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Air Pollution in Dublin City.

53.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether any investigation has been carried out in regard to the control of air pollution in Dublin city, and, if so, with what results.

On my Department's recommendation, measurements of air pollution in Dublin are being carried out by the corporation since 1960. The number of testing stations was originally five and additional measuring instruments have recently been installed with a view to obtaining a wider coverage of the city. As is customary in all large urban centres, air pollution exists but results to date do not indicate any danger to health. Tests are being continued with a view to a firm evaluation of the degree of pollution and of the remedial measures which may be practicable.
