Vol. 203 No. 7

Finance Bill, 1963-First Stage.

Leave granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to charge and impose certain duties of customs and inland revenue (including excise), to amend the law relating to customs and inland revenue (including excise) and to make further provisions in connection with finance.—(Minister for Finance.)

When will the Bill be circulated ?

Either Friday or Saturday, I hope.

Tuesday next, 18th June.

None of us is afraid to discuss this Bill. I would ask the Taoiseach to order the next Reading not for next week but for the week after next.

I do not mind.

I think the Deputy should give some thought to that, too. There is a question of time.

I appreciate that.

Normally, the Finance Bill moves into Committee Stage very quickly. If there will be delay, we have to consider the time factor.

Would there not be a better chance of getting it through quickly if Deputies got a chance of looking at it ?

I gather that what will be said on the Second Reading will have nothing to do with the Bill.

The more you look at it, the more you will like it.

It will be how soon this Government will get out.

The point is how soon do you want to get us out.

Second Stage ordered for Wednesday, 19th June, 1963.
