Vol. 203 No. 8

Committee on Finance. - Electricity (Supply) (Amendment) Bill, 1963—Money Resolution.

I move :—

That it is expedient to authorise such charges on and payments out of the Central Fund or the growing produce thereof and such payments to the Central Fund out of moneys provided by the Oireachtas as are necessary to give effect to any Act of the present session to authorise an increase in the total expenditure of the Electricity Supply Board for general purposes.

Since the discussion on the Second Stage, I had a question down to the Minister and it transpires that the ESB now estimate that 87 per cent of the dwellings in the country are connected with electric current. There is therefore virtually no difference between whether one makes that 87 per cent carry any particular burden or whether one gets the general taxpayer to carry it. The sum total of the difference is 13 per cent.
