Vol. 203 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Broadcast of Emergency Road Traffic Information.

14.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether any arrangement at present exists for the broadcasting of emergency road traffic information and warnings to travellers and intending travellers as to traffic dangers arising from floods, storm, snowfalls, etc., from Radio Éireann or Telefís Éireann, in particular information indicating where certain roads are impassable owing to emergency conditions; and, if not, if he will now take steps to have such a service instituted.

An arrangement for broadcasting information on road traffic dangers arising from exceptional weather conditions is at present in existence between the Radio Éireann Authority and the Automobile Association. I am informed that warnings are broadcast with the Authority's regular news bulletins whenever road conditions throughout the country or in a particular area warrant it.

Question No. 15 postponed.
