Vol. 203 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Game Development Grants.

31.

asked the Minister for Lands what grants have been given in each of the years 1960-61, 1961-62, 1962-63 and 1963-64 to date for (a) game research, (b) game rearing and (c) other types of game assistance, specifying the same.

Since 1961/62, grants have been provided by my Department to assist the approved schemes of local game organisations coming within Subhead L of the Vote for Lands.

These schemes are prepared on local initiative and reflect the wide range of varying conditions throughout different parts of the country. A stereotyped form of scheme would not be practicable.

A general analysis of the various schemes is not available in such detail as to give the precise information requested.

Perhaps it may suffice to state that the total grants paid were as follows:—

Amount

Year

£

1961-62

2,130

1962-63

13,076

1963-64 (to date)

3,300 approx.

Research has not yet figured significantly in the schemes submitted by the local organisations. The grants mainly related to predator control and general game development measures.
