Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Talks with President Kennedy: Irish Bases.

1.

asked the Taoiseach whether he held any discussion with President Kennedy during his visit to this country on the possibility of setting up American or NATO military or naval bases in this country; and if he will give details of such discussions.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative, and the second part does not, therefore, arise.

Would the Taoiseach like to avail of the occasion to indicate what matters were discussed?

Would the Labour Party not give the President time to go back to the United States before they ask these questions?

May I have a reply from the Taoiseach?

(Interruptions.)

The question does not arise.

Leave it to the Labour Party to pull the country down into the mud.

I merely want to say that I resent the remarks made by Deputy Burke. This question was put down in good faith. Deputy Norton's inquiry was made in good faith and, I think, the question was answered in good faith by the Taoiseach, without the interruptions of Deputy Burke.

I have my own views, too, of what they have done to the country, nationally and internationally.

Silk purses and sows' ears.
