Vol. 204 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Five-Day Week for Outdoor Post Office Workers.

37.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that outdoor workers of his Department employed in connection with the installation or improvement of telephone and telegraph services are anxious that they should operate in future on a five-day week basis; and if he will take steps to have such a system introduced as soon as possible.

A claim for a five-day week for workmen employed in the engineering branch of my Department has been submitted under the Scheme of Conciliation and Arbitration for the Civil Service. This claim, which covers both outdoor and indoor workers, is under consideration at present and examination of it will be expedited as far as possible.
