Vol. 204 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kildare Rural Improvement Schemes.

9.

asked the Minister for Finance how many applications received for rural improvement schemes, which were outstanding in the Kildare constituency on 1st April, have not yet been inspected.

Thirteen of the cases outstanding in the Kildare constituency on 1st April, 1963, have not yet been inspected. Every effort will be made to expedite the inspection of outstanding applications.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary say if it will be long before there is an inspection because in April, in answer to a question by me, he said that they would be inspected inside a month?

I informed the Deputy on 4th April that the inspector would be available during that month to deal with outstanding applications, but unfortunately one of the inspectors whom we had hoped to send out was ill from 1st April until 20th April, 1963, and the third vacancy which we had hoped to fill and for which a Civil Service Board sat on 8th April still remains open. The candidate who was nominated on 19th April refused to accept the appointment. The Civil Service Commissioners nominated an alternative candidate on 10th June, and he was cleared by them on 21st June. This alternative candidate was offered the appointment by us on 22nd June and we await an answer from him. If he accepts, I do not think there will be undue delay.

10.

asked the Minister for Finance how many applications for rural improvement schemes in the Kildare constituency were awaiting inspection on 1st April, 1963.

Twenty-four cases were awaiting inspection in the Kildare constituency on 1st April, 1963.
