Vol. 204 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fencing of Mink Farms.

12.

asked the Minister for Agriculture what regulations, if any, exist in regard to the proper fencing and control of mink, wherever they are being bred in large numbers.

My Department has no regulations to this matter.

Would the Minister consider the situation which exists in my constituency where quite a considerable number of these fairly dangerous rodents have escaped and caused terror and anxiety amongst the population? Would his Department take an interest so as to ensure there will be proper fencing?

I suppose we would be expected to receive complaints if, as is suggested in the Deputy's question, something has gone wrong. But we have received no complaint other than that contained in the question which the Deputy has on the Order Paper.

Will the Minister investigate the complaint?

I am not sure.
