As a result of consultations in government departments, it now appears that legislation may be necessary to bring our domestic law into conformity with certain provisions of the Social Charter, in particular Articles 8 (ii) and (iii). In accordance with the usual practice, such legislation, the preparation of which is under consideration, must be adopted before the Charter can be ratified.
