Vol. 204 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Remuneration of Rate Collectors.

39.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has yet sanctioned the change in remuneration of rate collectors in the employment of any county council; and, if so, if he will state the name of the council, and the new rate which he has sanctioned, together with the date of operation in each case.

Proposals submitted by the Meath, Longford, Westmeath, Laois and Offaly County Councils for changes in the remuneration of rate collectors who were formerly paid on a poundage basis and whose earnings were affected by changes in the Agricultural Grant have been sanctioned. The proposals provided for the application of individual salaries and bonuses to each collector, with effect from the 1st April, 1962, except in the case of Longford County Council where the operative date proposed was the 1st April, 1963. The individual salaries and bonuses were based on the collectors' earnings in respect of the year 1957/58 in the case of Longford County Council, 1960/61 in the case of Meath County Council and 1961/62 in the remaining cases.
