Vol. 204 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Telephone Operators.

56.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of operators answering to the telegrams number 39 in the Dublin area; and why many persons endeavouring to contact the telegram service between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Friday 12th July received the engaged tone.

The number of operators answering calls to 39 varies in accordance with the needs of the traffic. At the time and on the date in question the number of operators on duty was 13. According to the records, calls to 39 were all answered promptly but if the Deputy gives me particulars of any specific cases in which there was no reply I will have them specially investigated.
