asked the Minister for Local Government the paragraphs or sections of circulars addressed by his Department to housing authorities advocating the provision of building sites, including the reservation of such sites for private housing development in the planning of local authority housing schemes since 26th June 1947; and if he will indicate the powers of local authorities to acquire such sites by compulsory acquisition.

asked the Minister for Local Government the text of circulars addressed to housing authorities by his Department on 26th June, 1947, 18th October, 1948, and 29th November, 1949.

I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 74 and 75 together.

I am making arrangements to send to the Deputy copies of the relevant extracts from circular letters issued by my Department to local authorities in respect of the provision of sites for private building.

Local authorities may acquire land compulsorily for sale or letting to public utility societies or private persons for the erection of houses thereon by means of a compulsory purchase order under (a) the Housing of the Working Classes Acts 1890-1958 in the case of urban authorities, and (b) under the Labourers Acts 1883-1958 in the case of rural authorities.
