asked the Minister for Finance the cost of maintenance, reconstruction, decoration, heating, lighting and furnishing of Áras an Uachtaráin over the past twelve years.

The information is in the form of a tabular statement which, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, will be circulated with the Official Report.

Total expenditure £312,631.

The figures for reconstruction etc. work include an expenditure of over £60,000 on a major scheme of improvements carried out during the period 1954-1957 and comprising the following:—a new boiler-house, including the installation of Móna jet burners, general cloakroom and lavatory accommodation, kitchen for state functions, new main staircase etc., certain minor alterations in existing rooms and complete reconstruction of the accommodation for the secretariat. Over £2,500 was spent in 1962-63 on the improvement of the plant house accommodation which is now almost completed.
