Vol. 205 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Clear Herd Tests

47.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that Mr. John D. Murphy, Killahora North, Glountane, County Cork, who had a clear herd test in October, 1962, has not yet received his clear herd bonus; and if he will state the reasons for the delay.

48.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that Mr. John D. Murphy, Killahora North, Glounthane, County Cork, has got no notification from the bovine tuberculosis office, Cork, for a herd test since October 1962; and that this has created a difficult position for Mr. Murphy regarding sale of surplus stock, etc.; and if he will state the reason for the delay.

I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 47 and 48 together.

As regards the first question, the veterinary surgeon concerned was authorised to test this herd on the current round of testing. I understand that he visited the herd for that purpose on 9th September, 1963, but that the owner requested him to postpone the test for some time.

As regards the second question, the herd owner was paid the clear herd bonus under the Bovine Tuberculosis Eradication Scheme in August, 1963. A doubt arose as to the eligibility of this herd owner for bonus and the necessary investigations took some time to complete.
