Vol. 205 No. 1

Death of Member: Expression of Sympathy.

Members of the House will have learned with deep regret of the unexpected and untimely death, during the Recess, of Deputy John Galvin. Go ndéana Dia trócaire ar a anam.

When a mere youth, John Galvin took part in the War of Independence and during all his life maintained his dedication to the nation's advancement in every sphere of endeavour. His career as a public representative began when he was elected as a member of Cork Corporation in 1951. He became a member of Dáil Éireann in 1956 and continued to represent Cork city since then.

The late Deputy worked conscientiously and indefatigably for the people of Cork, taking a special interest in the less fortunate among his constituents, who found in him a real friend.

Kindly, generous and good-humoured, he endeared himself to all the members of the House. The Dáil will miss him, as will the people of Cork, whom he served so well to the end.

I ask you, a Cheann Comhairle, to convey to his widow and family our very deepest sympathy.

Members rose in their places.
