Vol. 205 No. 1

Written Answers. - Land Purchases by Non-Nationals.

119.

asked the Minister for Lands (a) the number of farms which have been bought by non-nationals in this country since records were available; (b) the acreage of land involved; (c) the amount of stamp duty paid; and (d) the amount of stamp duty still outstanding.

I presume the question relates to transactions which attracted stamp duty at the 25 per cent rate.

Since 1st August, 1961, relevant transactions have been recorded by the Land Commission in accordance with the provisions of sections 33, 34 and 35 of the Finance Act, 1961. Since that date, more than 2 years ago, 176 transactions, involving 14,434 acres, have been recorded, the aggregate consideration amounting to £876,687. Stamp duty at the 25 per cent rate, paid on this amount, would represent £219,172.

I am informed that the records of the Revenue Commissioners do not show any assessment of duty at the 25 per cent rate outstanding at present.
