Vol. 205 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Redundancy in Industry.

22.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what progress has been made in the settingup of machinery to deal with redundancy in uncompetitive industries as forecast in the surveys carried out by the Committee on Industrial Organisation.

The report of the Interdepartmental Committee on retraining and resettlement of redundant workers has been published and is under examination by the Government in consultation with interested bodies. Until this examination is completed, it is not possible to say what machinery will be set up to deal with redundancy.

Has the Minister any idea of how long the examination will take?

The report was made available only a few short weeks ago. It is an involved and detailed report and will require a detailed examination.

It will be done as expeditiously as possible?

The report was completed expeditiously and the examination will be expeditious also.
