Vol. 205 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Salary Deductions for Rate Payments.

6.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he will consider making the necessary arrangements to enable civil servants and employees of State-sponsored bodies, who so desire, to have regular deductions made from their salaries in payment of local rates, on the same lines as the present scheme in relation to income tax payments and life assurance contributions.

I consider that the introduction of arrangements for the deduction of local rates from the salaries or wages of civil servants or other State employees would not be justified. The introduction of such facilities for the employees of State-sponsored bodies is a matter for the management of each of those bodies.
