Vol. 205 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Amenity Scheme Grants.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will consider extending the amenity scheme grants so as to provide a contribution towards the cost of providing sites for persons who desire to build their own houses with the assistance of State and local authority grants.

The subhead in the Vote for my Department dealing with the grants in question also provides for grants towards the cost of clearance of derelict sites. Amenities provided with the aid of grants must remain available for the use and enjoyment of the general public. There would, however, be no objection to a cleared derelict site being made available, where appropriate, as a site for private housing.
