Vol. 205 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Telephone Call.

31.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs why a person who dialled 6 on telephone number 77224 at 4.35 p.m. on 31st October last was immediately connected with two other lines on which two persons were speaking; and what steps are being taken to prevent the crossing of lines in Dublin City, which negatives the confidence which the public are entitled to expect when using the telephone.

It is likely that the trouble experienced was caused by failure or malfunction of some minor component of the automatic exchange equipment.

The equipment is checked and tested regularly for the purpose of maintaining it in proper working order and rectifying any faults discovered.
