Vol. 205 No. 10

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Galway Custom House Lift.

12.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the need for the provision of a lift at the Customs House, Galway; and if it was the original intention in the plans for that building to have one provided.

The premises were designed to permit of the installation of a lift if the need should arise, but, in relation to conditions obtaining in other Government offices, it was not considered that the circumstances warranted its installation.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary look at the position as it is now? These premises were built over 30 years ago.

The Department of Lands intimated in January of this year that they did not propose to pursue the matter, pending a decision on a proposal of the Galway County Council for a new municipal office building in which that Department would be housed. Until that position is finalised, there is no point in considering further the installation of a lift.
