Vol. 205 No. 10

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Import of Industrial Goods.

30.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he considers that this country will face much competition from imports of industrial goods from low cost production countries; and if he considers that this country is sufficiently competitive to meet this emerging situation.

I am not able to indicate the extent to which competition from low-cost countries may develop. If imports were to take place on a scale and in circumstances which would unfairly prejudice Irish industry, I would have to consider the taking of measures which would provide protection against such competition.
