Vol. 205 No. 10

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Milk Prices in Cobh Area.

33.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that the price of milk in the Cobh area, County Cork, has been raised by the Cobh milk producers by 1d. per pint over the last three weeks; whether he considers that such price increases are justified; and whether he will take steps to ensure that such excessive price increases are prevented.

I am aware that the retail price of bottled milk in the Cobh, County Cork, area has been increased as stated in respect of the period to 30th April, 1964, when it will be reduced for the summer months. I am informed that this is the only increase in the retail price of bottled milk in the area since 1956 and that it is due to increases in operational and other costs since that date. I am not satisfied that the increase, in this instance, can be regarded as excessive.
