Vol. 206 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Coarse Grain Requirements.

39.

asked the Minister for Agriculture his Department's estimate of the number of acres of feeding barley, based on a given estimate of yield per acre, necessary to completely supply Irish coarse grain requirements to the exclusion of all foreign grain or offals.

The exclusion of all foreign grain or offals is hardly a realistic assumption but on this basis and making allowance for diversion for feeding of surplus malting barley, it is estimated that upwards of 500,000 acres of feeding barley would be required.
