Vol. 206 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Eradication of Brucellosis.

41.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if a scheme for the eradication of Brucellosis is contemplated by his Department, as it appears that a survey of the incidence of this disease is being carried out in the north-west counties at present.

The answer is "Yes".

Would the Minister indicate on what basis this programme is to proceed? Will it be primarily one of vaccination?

We have certain proposals already prepared but we have not had any consultations with the parties who are mainly interested and I cannot give the Deputy any idea of the course we will definitely take.

Can the Minister give any information in regard to the effect of Strain 19 in cows who have been vaccinated already with it from the point of view of checking brucellosis in the herd?

I am afraid I cannot.
