Vol. 206 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Holidays of Insurance Agents.

45.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that insurance agents have been refused their annual statutory holidays this year, notwithstanding the order made by him under the Holidays (Employees) Act, 1961; and if he will make a statement on the matter, and state particularly the date upon which such agents are entitled to receive holidays with pay.

A complaint was made to me concerning alleged failure to allow holidays with pay in accordance with the Act, as modified by the regulations made on 22nd July, 1963. Following an investigation of the matter, I have been advised that the effect of these regulations is to confer an entitlement to holidays with pay on any agent to whom they apply in respect of the employment year of that agent which commenced on or after 22nd July, 1963. An employment year is reckoned from the date, or anniversary of the date, of entry to the employment. I have informed the parties concerned in the complaint of my opinion in this matter.
