Vol. 206 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Decimal Coinage.

8.

asked the Minister for Finance if a system of decimal coinage will be introduced in this country; and, if so, when.

The Government decided in principle in February, 1962, that a decimal system of currency should be adopted and that a working party, representative of the Central Bank and Government Departments, should be set up to advise on the timing of its adoption and other related matters. The working party has not yet completed its report but I understand that it should be available shortly.
