Vol. 206 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tullamore Water Supply.

25.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the very serious situation which has arisen as result of an insufficient water supply for the town in Tullamore; that this matter has been disclosed at a recent meeting of the Urban District Council; that there are at least thirty applicants who have applied for permission to connect their houses with the water supply and who now find that there is no water available for them; and that many new houses in the area together with existing houses, e.g. at Callary Street, have insufficient water; and if in the circumstances his Department will cause a full enquiry to be held into this matter.

I am not aware that Tullamore water supply is inadequate to meet the needs of the urban area. The water supply to Callary Street has been unsatisfactory because of a defective pipe which is being replaced. I understand that certain connections to serve houses outside the urban boundary have been refused because it has not been established that the supply is capable of such an extension and that this matter is being examined jointly by the urban district council and the county council.
