asked the Minister for Education whether a separate statistical section in regard to education has been established in or by his Department; and how many professional statisticians are employed by the Department.

There is in one of the general sections of my Department a subsection which deals with statistics. In addition, there is a full-time professional statistician employed as a member of the National Team which is carrying out the educational survey in conjunction with OECD.

Is the statistician a member of the Department staff?

He was recruited at the setting up of this national team in a temporary capacity but the statistical work is available to my Department.
