Vol. 206 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mathematics Teachers.

46.

asked the Minister for Education the total number of honours graduates in mathematics out of the total mathematics teaching force at present.

As the furnishing of this information would necessitate an examination of the time-tables of all secondary schools and an approach to the headmasters of all vocational schools, I do not feel that the time and labour involved in compiling the information would be warranted.

May I take it that the investigating body the Minister mentioned earlier is not looking into this matter?

No; I expect it will be one of the matters under consideration.

Does the Minister think it is worth their while? Are they not wasting their time?

The only one wasting my time is the Deputy.

The Minister does not like this.

At least it gives me an opportunity to show that the Deputy is against any improvement in educational provision. The Deputy represents a group of private people but education can no longer be considered a private concern.

Equanimitas.
