Vol. 206 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Salaries of Technological Trainees and Mathematics Teachers.

47.

asked the Minister for Education the salary paid (a) to technological trainees and (b) to teachers in mathematics (1) without the Higher Diploma in Education in the first year of teaching and (2) with this diploma.

No salaries are paid by my Department to technological trainees, nor are vocational education committees empowered to pay salaries to such trainees. All permanent wholetime teachers, irrespective of the subjects they teach, are placed on the salary appropriate to the grading of the posts which they hold. I propose, a Cheann Comhairle, with your permission, to furnish details of the minima of these scales in the Official Report.

A secondary teacher who holds a University Degree and a Higher Diploma in Education is paid an allowance of £200 in the first year of service (probation year) in addition to the school salary.

Following are the details:

Married Man—£630 per annum.

Single Man or Woman—£541 per annum.

Class II Teacher:
