Vol. 206 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Shelters for Homeless People.

12.

asked the Minister for Health whether there are at present under consideration any plans for the renovation, improvement and modernisation of the shelters for homeless people in Dublin city.

The Dublin Health Authority is responsible for the provision, within its area, of shelter and maintenance for persons who are unable to provide these services for themselves or their dependants. The Health Authority discharges this obligation mainly by providing institutional accommodation in parts of St. Kevin's and St. Mary's Hospitals; in Brú Chaoimhin, Cork Street; in Brú Bríde, Crooksling, and in St. Clare's Home, Ballymun. The Health Authority also provided accommodation at Island Street for people who were temporarily homeless. Recently it became necessary to evacuate one of the buildings on that site and to provide, in lieu, alternative accommodation at Griffith Barracks. No plans in regard to any of these buildings are before me at present.
