asked the Minister for Local Government the total expenditure by local authorities in the Republic of Ireland for each year of the past ten years on the provision of fire brigade services; and if in view of the continuous increase in expenditure he has considered (i) providing substantial grants from State funds in respect of these services and (ii) introducing legislation to require insurance companies to make a contribution towards the expenditure.
