asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in respect of each of the following categories for the current financial year, or the nearest available date, the total sum paid by way of wages and salaries out of the Central Fund to (a) civil servants, (b) national teachers, (c) secondary teachers, (d) vocational teachers, (e) Garda Síochána, (f) the permanent Defence Force, and (g) local authority officials.

The annual cost to the Exchequer in respect of remuneration at current rates under the headings specified is estimated as follows:—

*This figure includes remuneration charged to capital account and covers, in addition to civil servants, industrial employees, civilian employees, Department of Defence, etc.

† The total cost of remuneration for the Army is £5.0 million.
