Vol. 206 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Unemployed.

3.

asked the Taoiseach the number of persons registered as unemployed at the employment exchanges serving (a) Dublin County constituency and (b) Ballyfermot area.

The information collected monthly in respect of the residence of registrants at the Local Offices of the Department of Social Welfare only distinguishes between those living in administrative towns and in the remainder of each county. It is not, therefore, possible to identify from these records those exchanges which serve (a) the Dublin County Constituency or (b) the Ballyfermot area. It can, however, be stated that on 30th November, 1963 registrants living in Dublin County Borough were recorded in the following offices: Gardiner Street, Werburgh Street, Victoria Street and Northumberland House. Registrants living in Dublin County were on the same date recorded in the following offices: Gardiner Street, Werburgh Street, Victoria Street, Northumberland House, Dún Laoghaire, Bray and Balbriggan.

I propose, with your permission, Sir, to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving the total number on the Live Register at each of these offices on the date in question.

Following is the statement:—

I can assure the House that there were many people idle in 1956 and 1957.

The Deputy cannot assure anyone.

Not even himself.
