Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Education the amount that has accrued to the National Gallery of Ireland as its share of the estate of the late George Bernard Shaw, and the purpose for which the money has been used.

The total net monetary benefit which has accrued to the National Gallery of Ireland from the Shaw Bequest is £537,749 16s. Od. In accordance with the provisions of the National Gallery Act, 1854, the money has been, and will be, used "for the improvement and enlargement of the collection of works of art".
