Vol. 207 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Malicious Injuries Compensation.

137.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he has yet completed his examination of the Report of the Inter-Departmental Committee established in 1960 to consider the law relating to the payment of compensation for malicious injuries; whether amending legislation in this regard may be expected; and, if so, when.

The Report of the Inter-Departmental Committee on Malicious Injuries is still being examined in consultation with the other Departments concerned. As I indicated in reply to a previous question by the Deputy, the Committee dealt with malicious injuries to the person and to property and acceptance of their recommendations would involve substantial changes in the law.
