Vol. 207 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin City Traffic Congestion.

149.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that traffic congestion has increased very considerably in Dublin city during the past year; and, if so, whether he has any plans to deal with the situation.

In the course of the last twelve months, much progress has been made in these matters, especially by the introduction of the new parking bye-laws last April. At the present time, the Garda Síochána are preparing, in consultation with the other authorities concerned, a number of far-reaching proposals to ease the situation. These measures include the introduction of two traffic circuses and a fairly comprehensive system of one-way streets in the central city area. It is hoped to bring these measures into operation by the middle of March.
