Vol. 207 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - ESB House Wiring Standards.

12.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is aware that a lady who returned to reside in Ireland recently after many years residence in Australia and who had her house wired and electrically equipped to the best Australian standards with the highest quality Australian equipment was refused an electricity supply by the Electricity Supply Board until she had the house wired and equipped according to the less exacting requirements of the Board; and if, having regard to the frequent refusals by the Board to approve work of independent electrical contractors while approving inferior and defective work done by direct agents of the Board, he will take steps, including the introduction of legislation, to protect electricity consumers and contractors against arbitrary decisions by the Board.

I am not so aware. The Electricity Supply Board have informed me that they will be happy to investigate the case if the Deputy will furnish them with the necessary particulars.

I refute absolutely the unfounded allegations contained in the second part of the question and I am satisfied that no action of the kind suggested by the Deputy is necessary.
