Vol. 207 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Control of Prices.

33.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will establish a Prices Tribunal to control prices in order to prevent the prices spiral unleashed by the recent turnover tax.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to a similar question on 30th October, 1963 (volume 205/4, Col. 523). I have nothing to add to that statement except to make it clear that investigations carried out by authorised officers of my Department provide no evidence of the prices spiral referred to by the Deputy.

The Minister's previous reply related to the period before the operation of the turnover tax. Has the Minister nothing to say about the period since?

The Deputy was not here perhaps when I read a very lengthy reply to a question by Deputy Corish. I am sure he will be quite satisfied when he has time to read that.

He might not be.

If he is objective he will be.
