Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of the Dublin County Council house No. 66, St. Maelruan's Park, Tallaght (a) the date upon which it was built; (b) by whom it was built; (c) the cost of building it; (d) the date upon which it was approved by the Council as being properly built; (e) the date upon which the defective window collapsed; (f) the nature of the defect in the windowframe which caused it to collapse; (g) the dates upon which the Council caused the window to be painted and repaired from the time of its first erection to the date of collapse; (h) whether the collapsed condition of the window was reported by any employee of, or contractor employed by, the Council, and, if so, when and by whom; (i) the estimated cost of repairing the window; (j) the dates upon which inspectors from the Council inspected the window subsequent to receiving complaints about its condition, and the cost of such inspections, including the cost of such inspectors' salaries while so engaged; (k) the amount of any Government grants or subsidies paid in respect of the capital cost or rent of the house; and (1) the first date upon which there is an entry in the records of the Council concerning the collapsed window.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state with reference to the enquiries he made into the window which collapsed in the Dublin County Council house at 66 St. Maelruan's Park, Tallaght whether the collapse was due to any wilful act or default on the part of the tenant; if so, if he will indicate the nature thereof; and, if not, if he will ensure that the Dublin County Council repair the window forthwith.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 54 and 55 together and, as the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, to circulate it with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:

(d) Date of final approval by County Council

(e) Date of collapse of window

Not known

(f) Nature of defect which contributed to collapse

The County Council is unaware of any defect in window frame

(g) Dates on which window was painted and repaired from time of erection to date of collapse.

Painted in January, 1958, and in 1961. No repairs carried out to the window frame.

(h) Whether window collapse was reported by any employee of, or contractor employed by, County Council.

No report received

(i) Estimated cost of repair

(j) Dates on which Inspectors from the Council inspected the window subsequent to receiving complaints as to its condition, and the cost of such inspections, including the cost of the inspectors' salaries while so engaged.

Inspected on 31st October, 1963, and 6th November, 1963. Cost of inspectors' salaries not charged on the basis of inspection per cottage. Inspections were made in the ordinary course of inspectors' rounds.

(k) Amount of grant or subsidy paid in respect of house

£16 15s. 0d. per annum.

(l) First date on which there is an entry in the records of the Council concerning the collapsed window.

NOTES :

(1) The above information was obtained from Dublin County Council on 23rd January, 1964.

(2) The Council are not in a position to say whether the damage to the window was due to any act or default on the part of the tenant.

(3) The Council have been asked to ensure that necessary remedial action will be taken without delay.
