Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Game Shooting Preserve.

86.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will take steps to establish a game shooting preserve at Bog-of-Ring, County Dublin so as to afford local farmers the opportunity to develop additional income along lines indicated in paragraph VII, page 19 of the National Council's Report of the third annual seminar held in March, 1963.

The establishment of a game preserve in County Dublin would normally be a matter for the Regional Game Council, in co-operation with the landowners concerned. The County Dublin Regional Game Council, to which grants to assist the implementation of game development schemes have been made by my Department, has not proposed the creation of a preserve in the area mentioned in the question.

Are we to assume that only the County Dublin Regional Game Council can make such a proposal, that Deputies cannot ask the Department to interest themselves in it or interest the County Dublin Regional Game Council in such a proposal?

The Regional Game Council represents all the interests concerned in game preservation. They have been established by my Department. Any proposal for game preservation or development should be channelled through that avenue and will be dealt with in due course.

May I ask the Parliamentary Secretary if he would be so kind as to make representations to this Council to examine the proposal inherent in my question?

Certainly. I shall communicate with the Deputy.
